With the anticipation of waiting for Susan Taylor to show up, everyone mingled, ate food and communicated with each other. Orlana Darkins of the Darkins Groups, Inc was in attendance as well as radio personality Anji Corley. Pittsburgh's elite came out to get involved and here how they can help to become a mentor after this event was over or to keep the mentoring relationships going that they already have established.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 227px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_vdYVNcl_xyk/SoAsRmJNYRI/AAAAAAAAAFM/6tBdcFZ9hpo/s320/brothaashsusantaylor1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5368339436634202386" />It was great to see a lot of people come out such as Orlana Darkins of the Darkins Group, Sage Berlin of Berlin International, Donna Baxter of the Soul Pitt and many more. It is always a pleasure to see our people come together for something positive and for the community. Here what they all had to say here about the National Cares Mentoring Movement, Susan L. Woodson for Brotha Ash Productions and The New Pittsburgh Courier

B. Marshall Productions, Matt Dillinger, NUVO, and Kaski Jewelers presented WAMO’s appreciation party and final celeb boat ride featuring America’s top super-Model Eva Pigford and actor Lance Gross of Tyler Perry’s “House of Pain.” The atmosphere was great and the boat ride was the last event honoring WAMO. Those who came out to show their appreciation for the station will miss it. Even though the boat ride got off to a late start, it was a major success.

<img style="float:center; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 231px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_vdYVNcl_xyk/Sm8LG5g4CLI/AAAAAAAAAE0/TU7ulmmQJgU/s320/wamoboatride01234.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363517894367381682" />

It brought all the dee-jays together one last time before WAMO goes off the air next month. You could see the unity that has developed between the dee-jays and other staff members that were present. While some were laid back and reserved, others looked at it as a time to accept change and move forward. Everyone agreed that WAMO will be missed, but some hinted the fact that there may be another urban radio station in the works.

READ THE FULL STORY FROM THE COURIER RIGHT HERE

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://brothaashproductions.blogspot.com/2009/07/wamos-last-ride.html' title='WAMO'S LAST RIDE - By Ashley G. He's been away for a while, but we are glad to have him back. A current resident of Philadelphia, PA, LXR is a spoken word artist/actor/writer who focuses on black culture.

Well this seems to be an ongoing chapter in my life as I get older, the more I realize that growth is substantial to a species development, the more obvious the way of the world is becoming to look quite different. How would you come to grasps with reality not knowing about tomorrow? Then again we never do in our existence, and it almost can be a little frightening to the weaker minded individual living in fear of uncertainty. How about being so afraid about prolonging our life with change, if we dared to open our eyes to the doorway ahead to a new beginning. Some of us would never want to grip the door- knob in ear of what lives ahead. Fear is the ultimate obstacle for human change, but living past the moment or moments of life experiences that holds us in place is even harder. Everything in existence has dealt with change, including the planet, from the days of the super continent, climate shifts, even the species that occupy the space on this planet have changed.

These moments in time can consume an individual such as set off a chain of emotions and push for another form of acceptance, such as never moving forward with the change. It can be rolled into an emotion or an event that has already occurred in time. Black Americans has seen its share of moments in history, and unfortunately some of these precious moments have been erased from our history. That’s when knowing thy self and learning about your past is so important, because those moments in time can help us push for a suitable future. Take a drug addict for instance; no matter how much drug the person seems to consume, it’s the feeling that the person is attempting to obtain. The same feeling of euphoria, and a nearly perfect model of self-satisfaction that puts them back into that same moment of ecstasy and complete and total freedom. Now I am not saying that living in the moment is not something that a person shouldn’t do, but staying in the moment and denying change becomes the problem. Some people that continuously travel to retro parties and so called reminisce about the good ole days cannot live past the moment. They allow the feeling to overwhelm them and take them back to that period of time. And what is it about that period of time that makes it so special? Can we assume that their habits and mentality never seemed to adjust to the times, or can we say that they denied the changing of the days? Well I will be the umpteenth person to say that time waits for no one, because even though humans may see it as a measurement of life to death, moments can take over a persons mind.

What happens is we allow our emotion to overcome our logic, so instead of saying it’s time to stop being addicted to this one moment in my life, some will say I like this moment and no matter what I will live here forever. When a love one dies we feel sorrow, for years we hold on to that pain but the truth of the matter is that person would not want us to become embodied in their dead memory. Rather just hold them close to your heart, never forget them but never live in the pain of their untimely death. I can add myself to the equation of living in the moment and staying in that particular place. I don’t hold grudges anymore because I do not wish for my mind not to grow, that includes coming to an understanding with certain black people, and realize that an uncomfortable situation has forced us to change our ways to create new and sometimes not better moments. I have just accepted myself as an American citizen but not African American; I am like most of the people in this country of mixed breed. To throw me into one category would be to ignore my bloodline. The reason being is that like myself, most of the black people in this country are mixed with a little European, also myself includes, Jamaican, and Indian. Now, because of all the mix breeding, we can still revert to ourselves as African Americans but that is not all most of us are mixed with. Remember, mental growth is viable to our own well-being and self-preservation of the human race, we owe our ancestors that much.

In the end, due to the fact that the greater creator blessed us with darker skin and wool nappy hair, some of us have not become conscious of how beautiful we look compared to the minorities. Blacks will disrespect their own people and themselves because we were taught to hate each other and look at each other in total disgust. Do you believe blacks where sprayed with fire hoses and marched up and down the street for real justice, and equality just for the next generation can think of a whole new way of staying ignorant? This Presidential election on the democratic side is about pushing for change, for blacks can stop looking at Hilary as Bill and praying that she wins to place Bill Clinton back into the white house. Barrack Obama would be a new face with new ideas, so would Hilary with her experience but some of her ideas our old. Not saying that Barrack would make a better candidate with his inexperience, but the focal point is about change, new direction, and an end to these political dynasties. But that’s another story for another moment in history.

Ashley G. Woodson
For Brotha Ash Productions
Command Operations and Protection Services (COPS) presented legendary hip hip artist DMC to Pittsburgh to speak with adopted and foster children at Second Chance on Frankstown Avenue and to perform at the Greater Pittsburgh Coliseum for the "Down With The King Cabaret". We know about the DMC the artist, but he wants everyone to know Darryl McDaniels, the man who recently found out he was adopted in 2001 at the age of 35, the man who has a new album and a new lease on life. Realizing his purpose and destiny McDaniels decided to make it possible for those less fortunate children without parents to have a life changing experience. McDaniels and his fellow adoptee Sheila Jaffe have started Camp Felix through our Foundation, The Felix Organization to send children without parents to camp. I had the pleasure of interviewing and hanging out with DMC for two days in a row. First I interviewed him at CJ's in the Strip, he spoke with the children at Second Chance in Homewood, and he performed The Greater Pittsburgh Coliseum. After the initial interview we sat in his car and listened to a few tracks from his latest CD. We also went to Arts across the street from CJ's for diehard fans to take photos and get autographs. It was plain to see from the beginning that DMC was a changed man from the experiences of his adoption. He was focused on the children of the world and how he could help.

CHECK OUT OUR EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW AND PHOTOS RIGHT HERE!!

Ashley G. "Brotha Ash" hooked up this exclusive Q&A for the BAP and The New Pittsburgh Courier.

READ THE EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW FROM BROTHA ASH RIGHT HERE

Ashley G. Woodson
For Brotha Ash Productions
I had the pleasure of interviewing one of Pittsburgh's most talented actors, Carl Clemons. I started this interview back in January of 2007 and because Carl is always involving and getting new projects, we waited until now to publish it.

1) How did you become interested in acting?
To me I became interested by God instilling the talent in me as well as it being a craft I enjoy doing that makes me happy.

2) What was your acting job?
On "The Wire" my job was to guard the drug shipment coming in from The Greeks that was to supply the CO-OP with their re-up

3) How did get a part on "The Wire"?
A blessing a major one at that I had been trying to get on "The Wire" since season 2 & 3. I was constantly sending in my headshot and resume but got no calls I finally did a major no no in the acting world "I CALLED THE CASTING OFFICE".I was fortunate enough to speak to a lovely lady named Sareva Racher she is a Casting Associate for Pat Moran & Associates they do the casting out of Baltimore for "The Wire". When we spoke I told her about my many attempts and she simply explained that to be considered you have to have a strong acting resume.I assured her that i did as i had been seccuring significant roles like my character Daryl on "The His Place Show" which was a national christian show based out of Pittsburgh Pa. She took a chance on me and told me to send my info to her address and she will evaluate my Headshot and Resume and if impressed will give it to head of casting. I sent my info off the very next day with a print out of the His Place Show website with me on it. To my surprise after 2 weeks i received a call for an audition i was so excited you would of thought i hit the lottery. I drove down to Baltimore they wanted me to audition for the role of the crackhead that beats up Bubs. Most auditions are a two step process so after the audition i thanked everyone and drove back and a few days later i received a call back. Now i was really happy one more audition to conquer I drove back to Maryland for my call back audition. I met with the directors and the writers it was me and one other guy there I did my thing and came back home I later found they didnt feel that part for me. Two months went by and they called me for another audition as a dice player back and forth still no fit the season was nearing its end so i felt desperation kicking in.I got another call a month and a halh later for the role of the drug guard she told me this was a big scen i'd be in so I had my game face on as i was fully prepped i drove down knocked out my audition and got a call back a few day later. Here we go i thought to myself all or nothing litle ol me with the casting director her casting associate, and the directors i did my thing looked them in the eyes thanked them for the opportunity and left. they called me a half hour later i was on the road driving back home i rejoiced almost the whole way home it was one of the happiest moments of my life.

4)Are you going to have a reoccurring role?
If you watch 'The Wire" and saw my scene you will figure it would be only right but they are very secretive which is good so you never know we will see though i'll know by the middle of February.

5) Are you looking to get into movies or music?
I can do music but I much rather stick to acting it takes up enough of my time which is good I like to stay busy

6) What would you suggest to others from Pittsburgh, who are interested
in acting on how to get started?
Stay determined and make sure its something you want to do because you will get tested there is a ton of rejection that is involved along with alot of competition. If you are serious about it just believe in yourself never think that your not good enough my motto is "Success comes from within as long as you believe" anything is possible no matter where you are from just keep your faith in the lord and yourself you can't go wrong and if you doubt this go back up and read my motto again.

7) Are you in this for the long run or do you have other interested?
Definitely yhe long run i've been thru to many things to stop when the blessings come pouring in i want to conquer acting for as long as i can by all means.
8) Your name is getting out there, how are you handling all of the attention?
I'm use to it being that i received notarity from The His Place Show I will use my fame to shine light on those in need being that people seem to bond with celeberties. For some reason they give them a honest chance to sit downa And talk to them on a real level.I can also use the income I'll be getting to help bless those in need and to help them to find their calling in life.
9) What do you want us to know about Carl, that we don't already know?
That what you see is what you get with me i'm a real dude i'm not in to that i'm better than you cause i'm on T.v stuff that's not cool.To me thats actually one of the things taht bugs me about Hollywood alot of people forget where they come from well not me and big up to those in Hollywood,NFL,MLB,Hockey and every other celeb out there who does still keep it real. That seperates you from the rest more than you know and you will always prosper and ecel higher and higher. The nomination is for music composition and arrangement for the production of several soundtracks including “In Country: A Vietnam Story”, “Jim Crow Pennsylvania”, and “From Pennsylvania’s Dutch Kitchens”.
The nomination comes as great recognition for a long road of hard work and commitment. Alaquiva, Owner and Director of Creative Services, opened the doors to Ya Momz House, then a 300 sq. ft. studio, in 2001 after being homeless for two years while working as a doorman at the Shadow Lounge and as a board operator at the now closed WURP 1550am.
The original thought for the studio was that it would be a safe and comfortable place for local music artists to come work on their music at an affordable price. The business has since expanded to a 1200 sq ft studio consisting of a Lounge Area, Control Room, and Live Room that performs a wide variety of services for clients both locally and nationally.
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_vdYVNcl_xyk/RrJF3YHmfpI/AAAAAAAAAB8/4fuvmfpMxdc/s320/emmai.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5094210946178907794" />"My heart is filled with the deepest appreciation from every corner of my soul to be recognized amongst other talent in the country. I could not even think of accomplishing anything of this level without the people of Pittsburgh supporting me to keep my dreams alive while I try to inspire the people around me to keep theirs alive as well,” Alaquiva said.
Most recently, Ya Momz House has launched the Hip Hop on Lock Project as a way to give back to the community that has supported Ya Momz House. The project is designed to teach inner city youth tangible, life- long skills such as leadership, teamwork, and cooperative economics through the creation of a CD under a mock record label. The students learn how to write, record, and produce several songs in addition to learning how to copyright their work. At the end of the program, each student has a completed CD that they had a hand in creating.
Ya Momz House has also received two Telly Awards for soundtrack work that was completed for some other of WQED’s past documentaries.
Ya Momz House, LLC is located in East Liberty at 124 S. The University of Pittsburgh study says that in Pittsburgh blacks live largely in segregated communities where they are disadvantaged by poor transportation and waning public safety and where 75 percent of the families are headed by black females. Even though many of us did not need a study to know this is our reality, why are so many of us afraid to state the obvious in plan language? Why are we so careful not to offend when a blind man can see that race matters? Ask the Duquesne High School students why West Mifflin and East Allegheny doesn't want them. They use code words like overcrowding, crime and security but we know the real reason is because they are Black. Sadly the reason that Pittsburgh's black leadership is so quiet is because activism has now become an occupation. You can make big bucks being a community activist nowadays. You can get a radio show, start a non-profit, or someday even run for office. So don't go messing up your chance to get money by doing something crazy like telling the truth! No matter how many children lack opportunities, become poorly educated, or are murdered on the street. Keep blaming rap music and protesting TV shows, but whatever you do, don't bring up race! Just keep cashing those checks.
Ezekiel 34
Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that feed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flocks?
Ye eat the fat, and ye clothe yourselves with the wool, ye kill the ones that are fed; but ye feed not the flock. Thus saith the Lord GOD: Behold, I am against the shepherds; and I will require My flock at their hand and cause them to cease from feeding the flock, neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more. For I will deliver My flock from their mouth, that they may not be meat for them. - Minister Jasiri X

Paradise Gray:As the NAACP "symbolically" buried the "N" word in Detroit, in Pittsburgh, PA we were burying the bodies of 18 year old Jehru Donaldson and the body of 18 year old Trevor Greer।I quietly stood in the back of 2 different Churches in 2 weeks and listened as the lives of these young men were eloquently eulogized। As I wiped at the tears in my eyes, I took in the whole scene confused and amazed at how many people were stuffed into these churches to show love for Pittsburgh's slain sons। I couldn't help but think to myself "where are all of these people as we scream for help at the tops of our lungs that someone needs to step up and stand up, to help keep these same young people that we claim to love so much in death, alive"? In fact every Church in every "Hood" is always filled to capacity as we eulogize and pray for our dead young all across "Clipsburgh Pistolvania"। The question that continues to bang inside my head is when are we finally going to have enough of this carnage? Haven't we seen enough of our children in fresh new caskets as our leaders languish in symbolism? When are we going to get to the root causes of violence in our communities? Haven't we customized enough R।I।P. T-Shirts? Haven't we tattooed enough images and names of dead homies and loved one's on our bodies? Haven't we seen enough families torn with pain? Have we heard the cries of enough mothers yet? What of the ones who are still living? Do we care enough and love them enough to finally come outside of our homes, churches, synagogues and mosques to begin to formulate and implement a plan of action that would educate and employ a generation of young men and women who have no hope for the future? It is overtime for us to get off of our asses and ensure a future for our children and release our elders from the prisons that their homes have become. According to the New Pittsburgh Courier one of our Elders and true leaders who risked his life so that black Pittsburgh residents could receive gainful employment and inclusion in the labor unions (in the construction industry) Nate Smith was viciously attacked on July 13th in the Homewood section of Pittsburgh. Nate Smith is a civil rights legend who would lay down in front of bull dozer's to get jobs for our people. That he would be mugged not far from his home, in his own neighborhood is disgusting. Who have we become that we would harm our own elders who championed our causes? Who are we to watch in silence as our children murder our children? Do not wait for your child to be murdered or arrested for someone else's murder to get involved, do not wait until you mourn your loved ones. The New Year Cheer and the resolutions have been made and they're also gone and so is the first two months of a new year. Where has it all gone, so fast, so futile, so dull and mundane for so many, and again its starts all over, again? A new year, life's a party and some people really believe that it's okay and it must go on as is. The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire, we don't need no water let the **** burn! The roof isn't what's on fire, but rest a sure there will definitely be a need for water and it won't be a roof, it will be more like the basement! There are too many preachers and crusaders more concerned with being on TV with their own personal agendas, then there are taking care of what really matters and what really counts! The people! Drug transactions still taking place right in front of the new Sr's apartments on Center Avenue, three blocks away from the police station and surrounded by churches, but not a WORD! There in the pulpit, but they've never really left the massa's house, there still the house nigger! But enough about some of the preachers still on the plantation.Unbelievable, unpredictable, unfathomable weather, babies burned, bagged, thrown away, seniors being left to die in the cold, forgotten, families burned up, burned out, shot up, shut out, kids and adults still killing each other, but life's a party and people really believe that it still must go on. All the heinous news that has been flooded into our homes, work places, churches, everywhere and some people really seem to believe that it's okay and must go on as is. All this and really there's been Not a WORD! There was a time that folk got together and made a statement, and took a real stand. Not anymore, folk just talk about what needs to be done, and relive and reenact what once was. But folks today, not a WORD! The world's media networks have given us everything but what we really need to hear, some Good News! I'd like to give you something that didn't make the news. This past Sunday, just like the Sunday of the Super Bowl, Not a WORD! Because there was a WORD! Two Christian coaches, it was great that they were African Americans, but that was just the icing on the cake, they were Christians first and they let the world know! But was it the topic of the lunch room, did you hear all about it on the bus ride to work, have you heard about it until you were sick of the super bowl? No! Not a WORD!This past Sunday the legendary evangelist Billy Graham with a crowd in attendance of 16,300 in the stadium. Led Those Saints down to Bourbon Street in the heart of New Orleans. One veteran officer said, he thought there was going to be a riot, but it turned into a revival, right there on Bourbon Street! Two hours after preacher Graham had left they were still having a HOLY GHOST party!Did you hear anything about this miracle, this life changing, life altering, life saving experience for those down on Bourbon street being saved? No! NOT A WORD! Life can be a party, but it's up to you which one you go to. <<>>"I would rather live my life as if there is a God, and die to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there isn't, and find out there is."
